My Bio…

Hello from Southeastern Ohio!! I first started working at Ohio University in Communication Studies as an Administrative Assistant. I currently work in the Registrar’s Office at Ohio University, working at a job my mother had 30+ years ago! Before coming to Ohio University, I spent 20+ years in the legal community as an administrative assistant, having worked very closely with judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and law enforcement in the Athens/Columbus, Ohio area. I enjoyed the legal work, but found myself getting “burned out” with the various aspects of the work, i.e. domestic cases. I would have to say, though, criminal law was my favorite and I am still intrigued by it today.
I have had some medical issues the past three years and I am still recovering (doing very well, but have moments), having an eight hour colostomy reversal surgery in January 2013, and having a new left ureter built for my kidney. I had bowel resection surgery (fighting diverticulitis) in December, 2011, and I had many, many complications. I spent 36 days in the hospital and the day I came home, I was never so appreciative to be alive and be able to see the mighty wonders of God! I always try to be appreciative for every day God gives me and take nothing for granted! I am still recovering, but doing very well and God has been with me through it all. I may not understand it all now, but it’s all in His plan and therefore I say “count it all joy!” Discouragement does not help in the healing process! 🙂 The healing process is going very well and I give God all the praise and honor for this!
I had a tugging in my heart to return to school a couple years ago, mainly wanting to take theology courses on line. After doing many hours of research regarding on line schools, I finally decided on Regent because Regent has the BA program in Communication Studies and the biblical classes I wanted to take. I can take all my classes on line in the privacy of my own home and this I thoroughly enjoy. I know many of you are asking “Why doesn’t she just go to school at OU?” My answer would be I did not want to because I am not a classroom setting type person. I love the use of technology and I wanted to be able to work at my leisure without having to leave my job, even though OU does promote attending classes. Plus, OU does not have the biblical courses I wanted to take. I look forward to working toward my degree in Communication Studies, with minors in Biblical Studies and Criminology. This will allow me the possibility of moving up to an administrative position with OU in the near future unless God has other plans for me after I receive my BA! While I was on medical leave, I was able to talk to God even more, this tugging is feeling like God wants me to do something different; therefore, I just keep praying and asking what Lord? What do you want me to do? In His timing, my answer will come!
As for my family, I am the middle child of three. Yes, that middle child!! 🙂 My parents, who celebrated 50 years of marriage in December (2013), traveled with my sisters and myself, playing and singing southern gospel music throughout Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky for many years. We attended several churches, with different denominations during these 25 years, but now attend Belpre Church of Christ, Belpre, Ohio, after leaving the Athens Church of Christ after 15 years. In May of this year, my oldest sister will celebrate 9 years being cancer free, having battled breast cancer. This was a very trying time for our family, but she said something the day she was diagnosed that is forever embedded in my heart. She said, “My God is bigger than lump and I will beat this!”
When I am not working, you can find me on a ball field somewhere watching my nephew play baseball, football, or basketball. I am an avid sports fan and I love my Kentucky Wildcats, Atlanta Braves, and Cleveland Browns/Denver Broncos. I was married for the first time in September, 2008, and have three step-children, Jon, Jeff, and Elizabeth. I currently live in Athens with my husband, Ed, and our four year old year old beagle/dauschaund/terrier mix, Gracie; three year old beagle/boxer mix, Moses; Brutus, our 120 lbs. lab/golden retriever, and our current rescue dog, Fred, who is lab/Australian shepherd (4 months old). They are my “fur babies”.
